- Eat a Healthy Meal: Eat something nutritious before the tryout, like a light meal that includes carbohydrates and protein for energy.
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before and during the tryout to stay hydrated and avoid cramping.
- Warm-Up Thoroughly: Make sure to warm up your muscles and get your body ready for action. Avoid cold starts, as it can affect your performance early on.

Coach’s Message on Tryouts:
High school basketball tryouts begin this week, and as head coach, I face the tough responsibility of making cuts.
To be honest, this process is painful. Telling a young athlete they didn’t make the team is never easy.
With a multitude of kids trying out for just 12 spots, many will be disappointed. Adding to this challenge, I know several players - and their families - who may not make the final cut.
The big question I face is this: “Do I select the top 12 players, or do I give preference to those I know, even if they aren’t among the top performers?”
Ultimately, this decision comes down to two core values: Relationships or Integrity. While relationships are incredibly important to me, in this situation, I’m choosing INTEGRITY.
This doesn’t mean I don’t value the relationships I’ve built. In fact, I’ll look for ways to keep those who didn’t make the team involved in the program, helping them continue to grow. I care about each of them.
I hope that, when this process unfolds, those who don’t make the team will understand and respect the decision.
