The Few, The Proud, The Marines:

I have a deep appreciation for the men and women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.

While I respect all branches equally, I have a special connection to the U.S. Marine Corps. Why? My father served as a Marine Staff Sergeant for eight years, and I spent two summers living with him in the Marine barracks.

Growing up, my dad instilled Marine-level discipline in me. He was strict, with a no-nonsense approach to everything. When he gave me an order, my only response was, “Yes, sir!” After I completed a task, he inspected it, and if it wasn’t up to his standards, I had to redo it until it was perfect.

At the time, I thought he was too hard on me, but looking back, I realize how much it helped me. The discipline and life skills he taught me have played a huge role in my success.

Now, as a basketball coach, my coaching style reflects the discipline I learned from my father. I believe that just as it helped me, it will also help my players, and our team succeed.

We may still have a long way to go (as a team), but we are on the right path to building a strong and successful basketball program. By staying disciplined, focused, and selfless as a team, I believe we can exceed everyone’s expectations.

Let’s keep working hard!
